Zusammenfassung:Ochratoxins are fungal secondary metabolites which exhibit nephrotoxic, teratogenic, immunosuppressive and carcinogenic effects on animals and humans. This review deals with the chemistry, biosynthesis, metabolism and mode of action of ochratoxin A. Possible strategies for controlling ochratoxin levels in feeds and foods, and preventing toxic effects of ochratoxin A in animals and humans are also discussed.
