Zusammenfassung: | Outlines a model of moral belief development based on Erik Erikson's (1963) & Douglas P. McAdams's (1989) theories of personality development that describes a 4-stage sequence: beliefs about outcomes, outcome certainty, beliefs about humanity, & social concern. The developmental antecedents of these beliefs were measured using 13 rationally constructed scales based on background data items; the model was then tested via administration of belief & developmental scales to a sample of 246 US undergraduates. Using a series of hierarchical blocked regressions, a pattern is revealed that supports the stage or contingent sequence model of belief development. Results suggest that a supportive, conventional, & consistent family environment is a major antecedent of beliefs about outcomes & outcome certainty. Adjustment to the demands of adult rather than peer culture is the major antecedent of belief about humanity & social concern. 4 Tables, 1 Figure, 44 References. Adapted from the source document. |
