Zusammenfassung: | A spectacularly heavy rainstorm occurred in the Athens area on Nov. 2, 1977. The 165 mm of rain that fell was the heaviest recorded in Athens since records began in 1871. After showing the distribution of the rain spatially and temporally, the synoptic situation is described. It is suggested that the event was due primarily to the influence of the built-up area on a potentially unstable air mass and that the result was an urban rainstorm. |
