Structure and properties of a novel neutrophil-activating factor (NAF) produced by human monocytes

At sites of chronic inflammation, neutrophils are exposed to the products of activated mononuclear phagocytes which are prominent in such lesions. In a study on the production of factors which activate neutrophils by human monocytes, the authors recently detected a novel peptide (termed NAF for neutrophil-activating factor), which acts on human neutrophils like the chemotactic peptides C5a and fMLP via a selective surface receptor.
