Zusammenfassung:Various methods of preparing metallic beryllium were evaluated. Magnesium reduction of fluorides, electrolytic preparations, and distillation refining in vacuum are compared. Metal--ceramic technology in manufacturing, melting (in induction vacuum furnaces), and extrusion of beryllium sections and the structure and properties of beryllium compacts are discussed. It was found that specimens of pure beryllium prepared by heat-compression extrusion in vacuum at 425 deg C possess a maximum tensile strength of 20 kg/mm/sup,2/ expansion (elongation above 20%).
