Zusammenfassung:Evaluation of the thermal stress state (TSS) of bands in large support rolls was conducted to determine correlations between such states and cracking propensity in 90KhF steel. Samples of various bands were taken and experimental hardnesses were compared to those calculated from TSS mathematical models. Good agreement was found between the two values. Correlation of mechanical properties and critical crack sizes was determined and this length was determined to be approx2.6-3.2 mm. The results lead to better techniques in the production of large rolls.
