Zusammenfassung:	Sesbania rostrata can fix atmospheric nitrogen through both root and stem nodules. Its use as fodder was assessed on 4‐month‐old stem‐inoculated plants grown in the field. The shoots had high crude protein and degradable nitrogen, but low neutral‐detergent and acid‐detergent fibre, lignin, total extractable phenolics and tannins, and extractable condensed tannins. Dry matter and protein degradabilities were high. S. rostrata is a potential protein supplement for ruminants. Copyright © 2004 Whurr Publishers Ltd
