Measurement of mixing in polymer melts by focused ultrasound

This paper outlines the development of an acoustical technique for measuring the dispersion of an additive in a polymer melt. It included a justification of the use of sound over other interrogating methods and an analysis of the acoustical system's operation. Results for dispersions of liquid or solid additives were shown. It was demonstrated that this system could detect the presence or absence of large particles in melts filled with small particles.
