Zusammenfassung:Magnetic hybrid composite materials have the peculiarity to change their mechanical properties when influenced by a magnetic field. This special characteristic can be used to develop smart actuators, sensor systems and control mechanisms. In the paper the use of magneto‐sensitive elastomers (MSE), composed of silicone rubber and silicone oil, with incorporated magnetic particles, in a form‐fit gripper application is considered. The field‐induced plasticity effect of MSE is used, to realise reversible recoverable shape adaptation of the gripper to the objects to be manipulated. The focus lies on the characterisation of the mechanical properties of the MSE for the specific application. (© 2017 Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
