Zusammenfassung:A square patch antenna with a single varactor loading is introduced as a tunable antenna over a wideband. Simulations as well as measurements demonstrate that the resonant frequency of the dominant mode can be tuned to cover more than one octave. Probe‐strip feed is used to enhance antenna matching over the entire tunable band. Cavity mode analysis is applied to a simple model of antenna to predict the lowest resonant frequency for an arbitrary location of the varactor loading. Excellent agreement between computed, simulated, and experimental results is reported. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
