Zusammenfassung:The pore structure of various water‐swollen fibers of cotton and regenerated cellulose was investigated by means of fiber penetration studies with saccharides and dextrans. From the data the volumes of the pores were obtained and average pore diameters and surface areas calculated assuming a slit pore geometry. There are difficulties in interpreting the results with respect to pore‐size distribution. It is shown that the surface areas are suitable parameters of the fiber structure for describing equilibrium dye adsorption of direct dyes in cellulose fibers. From this a simple dying method results for characterizing the pore structure of cellulose materials.
