Zusammenfassung:A colorimetric technique for the general quantitative adaptation of the Zeisel qualitative test for colchicine is described. The method involves the conversion of the colchicine to colchiceine by acid hydrolysis and subsequent measurement at 470 mμ of the color roduced when FeCl3 is added. The method is rapid, sensitive, and reproducible. It has been successfully applied to pharmaceutical mixtures containing colchicine. A detailed example of such an application is given.
