Ternary data for the acetic acid-water-mesityl oxide system

The ternary equilibrium data for the system acetic acid‐mesityl oxide‐water were determined at different temperatures. The results showed no significant effect of temperature on the solubility area. However, addition of about 10% sodium chloride increased the area under the binodal curve by more than 40 %. The tie line data were also determined. These data proved that mesityl oxide particularly in presence of salt is a promising solvent for acetic acid extraction from aqueous solutions.
