Zusammenfassung:Late Cenozoic sediments in the Sanmenxia Basin, northern‐central China are used for SIRM, remanence coercivity, susceptibility, alternating field and/or thermal demagnetization experiments. It was found that different magnetic carriers occur among loess‐palaeosol, lacustrine‐fluvial gray green deposits and brownish red pluvial‐alluvial sediments. Magnetic carriers of loess‐palaeosol are dominated by magnetite, with only minor amounts of hematite and maghemite. Gray green lacustrine‐fluvial deposits contain less amounts of ferromagnetic minerals that include more magnetite, and less hematite, together with unstable minerals such as goethite and possible siderite. Pluvial‐alluvial sediments also contain magnetite and hematite, but dominant by magnetite.
