Introducing ethics to chemistry students in a “ R esearch E xperiences for U ndergraduates” (REU) program

A three‐day ethics seminar introduced ethics to undergraduate environmental chemistry students in the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program. The seminar helped students become sensitive to and understand the ethical and values dimensions of their work as researchers. It utilized a variety of resources to supplement lectures and class discussion on a variety of issues. Students learned about the relevance of ethics to research, skills in moral reasoning, and the array of ethical issues facing various aspects of scientific research. © 2015 by The International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 43(2):76–80, 2015.
