Zusammenfassung: | Extreme shortening of a CC bond results from an increase in the s character of the bond orbitals, as is found in hexakis(trimethylsilyl)tetrahedranyltetrahedrane, which is depicted in the cover picture. Although a decade ago nobody assumed that such a derivative could be isolated, in their Communication on page 5821 ff. A. Sekiguchi and M. Tanaka describe the synthesis and characterization of this highly sought after target, which agrees perfectly with theoretical predictions. |
