Zusammenfassung: | Triethanolamine–iron complexes mediate the electrolysis of dispersed indigo (1) in aqueous alkaline solution to the leuko compound, which is soluble in this medium. This is a central step in the application of indigo as a textile dye. Since conventional reducing agents such as Na2S2O4 cannot be recovered and the process baths cannot be recycled, this new “rechargeable” reducing agent is of great environmental interest. |
