Zusammenfassung: | With the globalization of the world, it is becoming very important to have linguistic competence. More and more individuals are becoming multilingual, meaning they have knowledge or competence in multiple languages. This thesis explores whether multilingualism can be used as a learning resource in the English classroom. The theoretical background of this thesis is the national curriculum, the Council of Europe and previous research that is relevant to the topic. Furthermore, the thesis features four semi-structured interviews with English teachers in Norwegian elementary schools. These interviews reveal the teachers’ thoughts, experiences, and attitudes regarding multilingualism and how they currently use this as a learning resource in their classrooms. Finally, the findings will be discussed in the light of the national curriculum, the Council of Europe, and previous research regarding the topic to see whether multilingualism can be a useful learning resource in English classrooms. |
