Zusammenfassung:Southern Africa has been surely but stealthily slithering towards a supranational order. Not just that- a regional order based on a constitutional order is being cobbled. SADC has been at the core of such a transformation- from its genesis as an informal club to its current standing today as a fully-fledged regional organisation, SADC provides more than a template for regional integration in Africa. This work will trace the origins and development of SADC, describe and analyse its institutional structure and a critique of its legal infrastructure as well as an examination of the challenges which it has to confront. The work will further place SADC in the larger Africa-wide integration project as epitomised by the African Union.
