Places of Empire. The Making of an Imperial Environment in Western Europe, 1860-1960

This dissertation explores the relations between architecture and colonialism in the historic built environment of Europe itself, rather than “beyond” Europe. Although imperialism was essentially the exertion of European power over regions in Asia, Africa, and the Americas, it has been well established that these power relations also made an impact on European societies.
