SPORTS LEGISLATION IN JAPAN

The purpose of this essay was to discuss the Japanese sports policy from the point of view of the sports legislation. To achieve that, we analyzed the Japanese laws, regulations, bills and policy guidelines referring to sport. As a result, we came to the conclusion that the sports promotion in Japan has been realized by ＂self-help＂ of sports circles rather than by a strong initiative of the government, because a number of provisions of the Sports Promotion Act, which is the Japanese Fundamental Law of Sports, declare that the government and local authorities are not under obligation to promote sports,
