Zusammenfassung:Today’s challenges facing the public sector, both at the national and EU level, cover several aspects. In the long term, these challenges mainly concern issues related to technological transformation and ecological transformation. The ecological transformation is implemented primarily to achieve the Paris Agreement concluded in 2015. Public procurement plays an important role in the implementation of both goals. The role of public procurement stems from the market potential, shaped by two factors. First, the number of entities obliged to apply public procurement regulations. Secondly, the number of funds spent is based on the public procurement procedure. The key significance of the so-called “green” public procurement is currently due to the policy of the European Commission set out in the New Green Deal. The new Public Procurement Law creates opportunities for a significant increase in environmental aspects in domestic public procurement. A necessary element of promoting so-called “green” public procurement is the continuous improvement of knowledge and competencies of the public sector in counteracting negative climate changes. The article aims to analyze the role of public procurement in ecological transformation in the context of EU and national solutions.
