Zusammenfassung:Alexandru Enacovici was born in 1842 or in 1844. He was the son of a wealthy merchant in Botoșani, one of the largest towns in the Principality of Moldavia at the time. Enacovici studied in Iași, at the local “academy”, and then at the faculties of Letters and Law. His political debut was linked to the opposition against the conservative government led by Lascăr Catargiu (1871−1876).Until around 1882, he was a supporter of the liberal government of Ion C. Brătianu (1876−1888). In 1884, he became active in the Liberal-Conservative Party, formed by the conservatives of Lascăr Catargiu and a liberal faction led by Gheorghe Vernescu. After the fall of the liberal government, Enacovici was elected to the Parliament. During these years, he was also mayor of Botoșani (1888−1891) and president of the Botoșani County Council (1891). In 1891, when the LiberalConservative Party ceased to exist and a unified Conservative Party came in power, Enacovici became a member of the opposition, together with his political mentor, Gheorghe Vernescu
