Zusammenfassung:In1940, Jewish actors who used to play in Bucharest theatres, marginalized and excluded from Romanian cultural life, founded Barașeum, a Jewish theatre which was allowed to perform only in Romanian. For four years, between 1941 and 1945, the spirit of Yiddish theatre survived through Barașeum. Many important plays were staged and many intellectuals, both Jewish or not Jewish, attended.
