Scriitori evrei originari din județul Neamț (secolele XIX-XX)

A study of Jewish writers in general and especially of those from Neamț may seemdiscriminatory, but it is not. Jews were viewed and treated as unwanted strangers and the intellectualswere not spared discrimination and persecution. The purpose of the present study is to rediscover theJewish writers, some unfairly forgotten, focusing on Jewish writers born in Neamt county. In the firstpart we will discuss about H. St. Streitman and A. L. Zissu, born in Piatra Neamt in the second half ofthe 19th century. Henric Stefan Streitman was a journalist, translator and politician who went fromsocialism to right politics, known both for his controversial positions and for his erudition. A. L. Zissu,writer, industrialist and Zionist leader is probably one of the most important figures of the last centurywho because of the communist regime was forgotten. In the second part of this study we will continuethe presentation of the life and work of the Jewish writers who were born in Neamt County, namelyBrunea-Fox, Filip Cohn and Irving Layton.
