The theatre touring abroad as a discovery of new horizons

The proposed presentation is a part of a larger research in the field of the investigation of the possibilities of theatrical cultural exchange in the 20th century. The general theoretical framework is related to the theatre touring as an important circumstance for the development of theatre in a more general cultural and historical context. Emphasis is placed on some important touring Bulgarian performances in the 20th century abroad as an attempt to open the Bulgarian theatrical culture to the world. Preserved documents, memories and materials from periodicals to restore these events in cultural life are used. Processes related to the search for national identity including the debate of the native and the foreign through theatrical art are analyzed.
