Czapliński presents a brief history of Polish reportage from the 1990s until the end of the 2010s. There are three ways in which reportage became an orientation genre or a point of reference in these two decades: as a genre combining literature and fact, it became a capacious and fuzzy form; reportage advanced and eventually attained equality with fictional literature, thus becoming an indicator of changes in cultural hierarchies, reading preferences and the literary system; finally the dual qualification of truth and fabrication allowed reportage to locate itself in the centre of the genre system, between the poles of “pure document” and “pure fiction”.
