Profesoratul lui Constantin Erbiceanu la Universitatea din București

Born in 1838, Constantin Erbiceanu was a pioneer in cultural studies, asserting itself through research on Greek influences and on the Phanariot Regime, reconsidering them through sound arguments, and going against the mainstream of the Romanian histo-riography. Educated in theology at the University of Iasi (in the very first generation of students) and at the University of Athens, he was noticed as a promising theologian and historian in the academic environment of Iași. In 1887 he was called to Bucharest by the Minister of Public Education, D. A. Surdza, occupying at the same time four difficult jobs, with complex responsibilities: manager of the Publishing House of the Holy Council, editor of the journal “Biserica Ortodoxă Română”, teacher at the Central Seminary of Bucharest, and Professor at the Theological Faculty of the Bucharest University. My paper investigates Erbiceanu’s teaching activity at the University, the direc-tions of his studies, the relations with the students and with his fellows, as well as his principal actions as dean of the Theological Faculty.
