Kezdetben vala… Szepeskáptalan: Az első német nemzetiségi tanítóképző intézet a történelmi Magyarország területén

During its almost 130 year existence, the institute trained 1777 teachers. It was important not only from the point of view of its students or teachers trained, but because it was the very first teacher training institute in the Kingdom of Hungary, and, as a church institution, for a certain period of time it even succeeded to become independent from the state. It trained folk school teachers, who, besides their national-popular command, also received ecclesiastical education – so they not only advocated and spread knowledge but religion as well.
