Zusammenfassung:Two contrast variants of Middle Palaeolithic from South-Western Russian plain are distinguished: they are Typical and Denticulate Mousterian. Denticulate Mousterian is characterized by abundant elements of the Upper Palaeolithic, especially end scrapers, mostly Aurignacian-like. In typical Mousterian end scrapers are rare and atypical. This is the main difference. «Denticulate Mousterian» of this region is a peculiar variant of the Middle Palaeolithic (Stinka «culture» type) with Blattspitzen. This variant is examined by several researchers as ancestor of the regional Upper Palaeolithic. Typical Mousterian, on the contrary, has not direct descendants in the region.
