Zusammenfassung: | The paper refers to Jean Ancel’s important contribution to the historical bibliography on Holocaust, as the author of some fundamental work about the Holocaust in the Romanian territory.
He published 12 volumes of documents named Documents concerning the fate of Romanian Jewry during the Holocaust that contain thousands of testimonies about the life and death of the Jewish people during this period.
Studies about the deportations and the treatment of Jews in Transnistria have an important place in the work of Jean Ancel. He demonstrated that even if the Jews from Romania have not been deported in Nazi extermination camps, the Romanian Jewish people from Bessarabia, northern and southern Bukovina and also, partially, those from the Old Kingdom and from southern Transylvania, and also the Ukrainian Jews from Transnistria were the victims of a special, local form of the final solution. More than 280,000 people, Romanian and Ukrainian Jews, were killed by the Antonescu regime.
In Romanian historical literature, the works of Jean Ancel are ignored or contested. |
