Selected experiential knowledge the team gained from projects is presented. Studies, monographies, diploma papers and dissertations, lectures and seminars both within and outside the university contributed to better quality of structuring lexical data categories and their description. The idea of Large German-Czech Academic Dictionary transformed in a digital database as an open system in which the specific features of parts of speech can be fully respected. The empirical corpus linguistics approach and modern analytical methods developed at the Institute of the German Language in Mannheim showed as one of the basic prerequisites including a careful observation and evaluation of authentic corpus data. Morphosyntax, collocations, stylistic markers for both German and Czech like a careful treatment of word-formation relations are central for the description strategy. To solve practical and theoretical problems, team work and assistance of experienced colleagues is required.
