description The writers’ language dictionaries are specific examples of lexicons essentially different from general language dictionaries. They differ in goals as well as the range of analyzed material and methods of its description (mainly the way of defining entries). Among writers’ language dictionaries one can distinguish dictionaries that are simplified, shortened, limited in relation to material or dictionaries which are complete regarding their analysis. A model of a complete language dictionary in Polish literature is realised by two, already completed studies: Słownik języka Adama Mickiewicza (Dictionary of Adam Mickiewicz’s language), Słownik języka Jana Chryzostoma Paska (Dictionary of Jan Chryzostom Pasek’s language), one partly published – Słownik polszczyzny Jana Kochanowskiego (Dictionary of Jan Kochanowski’s Polish language) and one being prepared: Internetowy słownik języka Cypriana Norwida (Online dictionary of Cyprian Norwid’s language). All these lexicons are a valuable source of information on a particular author’s language and style and on the shape of Polish language in author’s times.
