The transformation of spatial linkages in Łódź urban agglomeration in the last four decades

The transformation of centrally planned economy into market economy broughtsignificant changes within Łódź urban agglomeration both in the structure and strengthof spatial linkages. Those changes refer in particular to permanent migrations, as well asworkforce and students’ commuting flows. They lead to strengthening the role of Łódźas the cultural centre of the region and the development of linkages within technicalinfrastructural networks. The socio-economic transition changed the conditions ofinstitutional cooperation, too. However, taking contemporary inter-municipal relationshipsinto consideration Łódź urban agglomeration doesn’t seem to keep up with otherPolish agglomerations, even those of significantly lesser socio-economic potential.
