Zusammenfassung:In 2014 the Jewish Museum in Prague (hereinafter: the JMP) commemorated the 20th anniversary of the regaining of its independence. The transformation of the political and social situation in what was then an autonomous Czech Republic at the start of the 1990s opened up a path which – thanks to the return of the JMP’s collections and buildings to the Federation of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic (hereinafter: the Federation) specifically to the Jewish Community in Prague, and due to the re-establishment of the JMP as an independent organization – brought about a fundamental change to the status and subsequent direction of this modern memory institution. The JMP’s so-called ‘denationalization’ and subsequent lack of any kind of systematic support for its activities from public budgets also had a direct impact on its acquisition activity, i.e. on the management and development of its collections.
