Klug examines the logic of the physiologist frame of mind that ignores this question, taking as examples two individuals representing such an approach – the fictional Dr. Moreau from the novel by H. G. Wells and a 19th century scientist, Claude Bernard, who wrote Introduction to the Study of Experimental Medicine.
