Zusammenfassung:The Cultural League of Germans in Romania was founded in 1922, in Sibiu, and was disolved in 1931. Among its areas of activity, there were also instructing and educating the people and supporting schools. The League criticized Romania’s educational legislation and asked that students receive mainly practical knowledge. The Cultural League supported especially German schools from Romania that were jeopardized by school policy of the governments in Bucharest, like those from Bukovina. Here, but in other provinces inhabited by Germans as well, the League sent teaching material brought from Germany. The League had a special role in the introduction of film slides in the teaching process and in conferences’ presentations for adults. German high school and university students from Romania received scholarships from Germany through the League. They also had an Office for Counseling and Vocational Guidance. In addition, teachers enjoyed the League’s help for professional perfecting through postgraduate courses and study trips to Germany. The Cultural League’s relations with the German schools from Romania were very good. The institution with headquarters in Sibiu replaced the absence of an education office within the Germans’ Union in Romania.
