During the ‘golden age’ of their history, the Arabs engendered a prestigious culture. They were not introverted. Instead, they absorbed the fruit of ancient civilisations (Haldeic, Sumeric, Assyric and Greek), only to convey them to Europe at a later stage. Europeans should be grateful to them for their renaissance and their overall progress. In transferring cultural heritage from one era to the next and from one community to another, it is translation that takes special credit. Our generation should be aware of the pioneering role of translation in receiving cultural heritage from earlier civilisations. The wealth of earlier civilisations was also transferred through Arabic, particularly through translation schools, which existed across the Islamic-Arabic states. Younger generations should be aware of those facts, worthy of thorough examination when researching cultural exchange between communities in contact.
