This article comments on Michael Burawoy’s article “For Public Sociology”. The author contextualises Burawoy’s ideas and the problem of sociology’s public role within the relations of current questions of the history of sociology and science studies. The article’s argument questions the existence of the connection between sociology and civil society assumed by Burawoy, which according to his argument could serve as a basis for the more active role of sociology and for dealing with social problems.
