Zusammenfassung:Summary One of the sports management specialists’ professional features identified in the context of European sports managers’ training is general competence which is seen as knowledge and understanding (the ability to absorb and understand the theoretical knowledge in the specialty) and knowing what to do (the practical application of knowledge in specific situations, and human values as a key element allowing to feel the surrounding world, to live with other people in the social context). A modern professional must be adequate to the dynamic, changing world of study; his functionality and development must meet the societal needs and social practices. The future of sports managers’ training programmes is closely related to the Bologna Process and the Copenhagen Declaration. The study participants’ views, interpreted by the methods of factor analysis and nonparametric statistics, allowed to distinguish significant sports management professional competence groups: the instrumental skills (organizational skills, accounting and legal acts governing the knowledge of the selected business area and skills to use them), the basic subject knowledge (state activities, finance and accounting, personnel management, marketing and advertising, business planning and organization of theoretical knowledge), management skills (ability to manage, negotiate, to ensure the quality of the organization’s activities, to analyze, organize and evaluate the skills of analytical information), which are obtained through basic knowledge skills and practice.
