Zusammenfassung:The article looks at the construction of diasporic identity from the viewpoint of globalisation and transnationalism. The analysis is carried out on a publication by and for Romanians in the UK, the London-based Diaspora Româneascã. It employs elements from Critical Discourse Analysis to capture the discursive hybridity of diasporic identification, as well as contestations of discrimination on national(ist) grounds. The findings indicate little evidence of a transnational identity and a focus on engaging with Romania’s negative image in the European Union and establishing strategies of empowerment for Romanian immigrants.
