The Democratic Party in the 2010 Midterm Elections

The aim of this paper is to present the Demoratic Party’s results in the midterm elections of 2010. As a consequence of the results, the president’s party lost many seats in Congress. The Republican Party gained a majority in the House of Representatives. President Obama took full responsibility for his party’s defeat. Now he must fi nd a way to cooperate with the GOP. The president’s party losing seats in Congress during the midterm election caused a political earthquake. Apart from the effect of the midterm elections, the GOP used the difficult economic situation and health care reform to win elections. The Tea Party movement gained many seats thanks to its criticism of Obama’s policy.
