Zusammenfassung: | This essays focuses on the presentation of two important Slovak modern painters, Ľudovít Fulla (1902–1980) and Mikuláš Galanda (1895–1938) as part of artistic developments in Slovakia from the late nineteenth century through the twentieth. The author mainly considers their published ‘private papers’, which present formulations of their art programme. He points to their unusual form and he analyses in detail their content, underscoring their rejection of mimeticism and their emphasis on the self-reference of the picture. He considers it indisputable that the written presentation and the art work of these artists represents one of the highpoints of modernist tendencies in Slovakia. |
