Zusammenfassung:The sixth decade of the 20th century was based on methods of punishment, coercion, and suppression of the Romanian elite by the communist regime in Romania. While the partisans of the democratic regime chose to fight in the mountains until the final victory, most of the Romanian elites did not have the necessary time to seek refuge or to leave the country. The representatives of the Bratianu family maintained a peaceful attitude and did not even want to leave the country. A telling episode is the case of Gheorghe I. I. C. Bratianu, who categorically refused to leave the country, stating that “a Bratianu will never betray”. Furthermore, he did not receive any medical assistance or treatment in the prison of Sighet because he refused to rewrite the History of Bessarabia. The communist regime wanted to falsify history and have the author of such a work state that Bessarabia and Bukovina are Russian lands. Professor Gheorghe I. I. C. Bratianu, who had fought with a weapon in hand during the Great War for the Unification of the Romanian lands, strongly opposed this demand. In the year 1993, in Ratesti, together with a series of personalities, we commemorated 50 years since the death of historian Gheorghe I. I. C. Bratianu, and a marble plaque with the inscription “Bibliotheca Publica – Gheorghe I. I. C. Bratianu” (Public Library – Gheorghe I. I. C. Bratianu) was consecrated. The symposium was attended by Professor Barbu Costinel, Ioana Gh. Bratianu, Victor Spinei, Nicolae Enescu, the Papacostea brothers, Silvestru Voinescu, and university professor Vasile Novac.
