Zusammenfassung:This work aims to analyze two novels, Crossing Madrid, by the Spanish author Francisco Umbral, and Miladin of China, by the Macedonian author Božin Pavlovski, both published in the sixties, the first in what is known as the Franco period of the opening and development and the second, in the Yugoslav era in which socialist ideals are gradually crumbling. Both novels have many similarities in the way they represent the arrival of the provincial to the big city and in the way they portray the characters who either defend themselves with an apathetic attitude in the face of the frenzy of the metropolis or succumb and go crazy. The city attracts many provincials with the promise of a better life, but soon, unable to find that promised paradise, the characters are condemned to an eternal wandering, from which sometimes the only way out is death.
