Zusammenfassung:Background: Fungal peritonitis is a rare complication of peritoneal dialysis treatment. Risk factors for fungal peritonitis include advanced age, diabetes, immunosuppressive treatment, and long-term antibiotic therapy. The occurrence of this complication requires resolute management, including the following: discontinuation of peritoneal dialysis, removal of the peritoneal catheter, initiation of hemodialysis, and antifungal treatment. Aim of the study: To describe a rare case of Candida parapsilosis peritonitis and to assess the problem of fungal peritonitis in our peritoneal dialysis center. Case report: Candida parapsilosis peritonitis was reported in a 66-year-old male on automated peritoneal dialysis. The diagnostics approach, clinical course, management, and epidemiology of fungal peritonitis in our center are presented. Conclusions: Candida parapsilosis and other non-albicans Candida peritonitis in peritoneal dialysis patients seem to be an emerging clinical problem.
