In the article the principles of a one-volume monolingual native dictionary are discussed from both theoretical and practical viewpoints. upon a general introduction into such dictionaries as available in some other languages the focus moves on to the prospective Estonian dictionary, which has been prepared ever since the publication of the big academic explanatory dictionary and is planned to be published in 2015. three big lexicographic issues are discussed (theoretically): headword list, meaning presentation, and usage examples.
