Zusammenfassung: | Based on Polish chronicles, this study presents the context which determined King Cazimir IV of Poland to start the war against Moldavia (1450), which was then governed by Bogdan II, the father of the future ruler Stephen the Great. Focusing on their military tactics, the author looks at the battle of the River Crasna (6th September 1450) to bring to light the strategies used by both armies and specifically the defensive strategy of Prince Bodgan II, who avoided and postponed a decisive confrontation, forcing his adversary to follow him for a long period of time, without seeing any concrete result. Thus the Polish army were worn down and got lost in a hostile and unknown territory. The 1450 expedition failed but Bogdan II was killed one year later when he was plotted against and assassinated. |
