Filologul şi stilisticianul Gheorghe Chivu

The article aims to synthesise the activity of one of the best-known con temporary Romanian philologists – the academic and researcher Gheorghe Chivu. The central idea is that of a natural professional evolution, which was absolutely necessary for him to distinguish himself in this field. G. C. began to elaborate specialised bibliographic documentation works, then moved on to editing old Romanian texts and only later did he write studies on the interpretation of language facts – monographs and syn theses – about Romanian written culture in the early ages (1521-1780). In principle, this presentation covers only two subfields: a) philology, in the narrow, technical sense; b) stylistics of old texts. But the concerns of the author in question here obviously involve all language sciences, in an integrating vision.
