Zusammenfassung: | The article describes the main directions of the discussion on the vocational education of young people in the context of the challenges of modernisation, conducted in the pages of Polish magazines in the Kingdom of Poland at the beginning of the 20th century. This period brought intensive development and new forms of vocational education, and new contexts, problems and arguments about the legitimacy of further development of this form of education appeared in the journalistic discussion. In 1905–1918, in the public debate about the modernisation of education in the Kingdom of Poland the constantly raised issue was the vocational education of young people, which was supposed to respond to the rapidly changing reality of social life. So far, these issues had not been the subject of historical and pedagogical analyses, while the discussion about vocational education at the beginning of the 20th century was conducted in various periodicals. The first part of the article attempts to analyse the ideological contexts of the discussion on practical education. The subsequent parts are devoted to the two issues particularly important in the press discourse after 1905 – the vocational education of peasants and the professional education of girls and women. These problems are discussed on the basis of extensive press research. |
